Bio
Laurie is a Guelph-based artist who studied Fine Art at the University of Waterloo. Her minimalist wall sculptures, which she calls Portals, are made using oil, cold wax, and acrylic on shaped plywood, with beveled edges painted in neon colors that reflect off the wall and change with the light. Some of her Portals are playful and bright, while others are more subdued and monochromatic. Laurie loves exploring the color relationships between the shapes she creates.
Laurie's work has been exhibited internationally in art fairs in London, Hong Kong, Hamburg, Korea, and New York and Miami, as well as in Charline Kervyn Contemporary Art in Ghent, Belgium and The Drey Berlin. She has received recognition and awards for her work, including being featured in several publications and exhibitions.
Laurie's work is a unique blend of materials, techniques, and aesthetics that captivates and inspires viewers worldwide.
I am a contemporary artist who creates minimalist wall sculptures called Portals. Using oil, cold wax, and acrylic on shaped plywood, I explore the interplay between solidity and ethereality, form and reflection. Each piece is beveled and painted with neon colors that reflect off the wall, creating a dynamic interaction between the artwork and its surroundings. This adds an extra layer of visual interest, as the "glow" shifts and changes with the light, providing a new experience for viewers depending on the time of day. My work ranges from playful and bright to subdued and monochromatic, allowing for a wide range of emotional and visual experiences. Recently, I have been experimenting with melding two forms together, and I find great joy in exploring the color relationships between them. Through my art, I seek to create a sense of wonder and curiosity in the viewer, inviting them to step into a world of vibrant color and organic form. My goal is to create pieces that inspire a sense of connection and unity, while also celebrating the unique beauty of each individual piece.
